Compusult Awarded Contract by Elections Canada to Develop Mobile Application for Visually Impaired Electors
January 24, 2025

(Mount Pearl, Canada) - Compusult, a leading Information Technology and Assistive Technology company headquartered in Newfoundland and Labrador, has been awarded a significant contract by Elections Canada. Under the Assistive Voting Technology Development (AVTD) project, Compusult will develop a standalone application that allows blind and visually impaired electors to use their own mobile devices to privately and independently vote for the candidate of their choice using standard paper ballots at the polls during elections.

As a pioneer with over 30 years of experience and expertise in Assistive Technology (AT), Compusult has long been dedicated to providing adaptive solutions that empower persons with disabilities to independently participate in all aspects of life at home, work, school, and socially. Compusult’s comprehensive range of AT products, services, and training has also enabled many different organizations to reliably and economically create accessible workplaces and environments.

Mr. Paul Mitten, Compusult's Vice-President, is the Account Manager for the project. He expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership with Elections Canada, stating, "At Compusult, we’re deeply committed to leveraging technology to break down barriers and foster inclusivity. We’re honoured to have been chosen by Elections Canada for this vital project, which aligns with our mission to empower persons with disabilities through innovative solutions."

The objective of the project is to design, build, deliver, and maintain a mobile application specifically tailored to the needs of visually impaired and blind electors. Using their own mobile device and the app, these electors will be able to independently verify the mark on their paper ballots, thus ensuring their full participation in the electoral process.

Compusult's team of software developers, AT product specialists, and trainers stands ready to support Elections Canada in fulfilling this critical mandate. With their expertise and dedication, Compusult is poised to deliver a mobile application that exceeds the expectations of Elections Canada and, most importantly, empowers visually impaired and blind electors across the country.
